LAN Airlines Shines in 2014 World Travel Awards13th Aug 2014
LAN Airlines has won another award during this year's World Travel Awards, the world's most prestigious award-giving body in travel industry.
In a recent 2014 World Travel Awards held in Quito, Ecuador, LAN Airlines was announced as the winner for this year's Leading Airline in South America. The award was the airline's third such honor in as many years and fourth overall for the airline since it first received the same recognition in 2007.
It bested its fellow LATAM Airlines member, TAM Airlines of Brazil - the other nominee in the category.
The awarding ceremony was held at Itchimbía Cultural Centre. Unlike other travel awards which are mainly decided by travelers themselves, the WTA is decided by a panel of judges who are industry experts, using a set of criteria based on the customer satisfaction, product innovation, service quality, corporate social responsibility, etc.
LAN Ecuador CEO, Mnauel Van Oordt, remarked that the focus of the LATAM Airlines Group has always been customer service excellence aside from their contribution to the development of the aviation industry. He added that the achievement of any of the members is a success and honor to the entire LATAM group.
The latest top award is the eighth overall for the LATAM Airlines group. TAM Airlines of Brazil received the same award for four consecutive years, in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
LAN Airlines first received the Leading Airline in South America award in 2007, and it took the airline half a decade to get the same recognition in 2012.
The WTA bestowed a sub-category award to LAN Airlines in 2005, when it was named South America's Leading Airline - Business Class.
