LAN Airlines Celebrates CSR Success

29th Sep 2014

LAN Airlines is taking pride on the success of its annual program "I Care For My Destiny" as they celebrate its fifth year anniversary since it was launched in 2009. The activity coincides with the airline's observation of the global World Tourism Day.

The program, which is under the auspices of its own Corporate Social Responsibility, aims to encourage and enjoin youth from different countries all over Latin America to give importance to the environment and heritage sites in their own country for a sustainable future.

The LATAM Airlines Group CEO, Igancio Cueto, was present during the event and couldn't hide his sense of pride as he talked about the group's commitment to the preservation of the continent through which they involve the youth in their effort to achieve their goal.

By involving the youth in the program, they will become more aware of the economic, environment, and social role of the community that they live in. As a result, they become more responsible citizens in their own communities.

During the course of its existence, the program was able to attract the participation of more than 2,000 students from different countries along with the officials from airline members.

The aim of the program is to preserve and conserve tourist sites across the continent through the involvement of the youth in participating countries to create awareness of the tourism, economic and environmental impact on the heritage sites if left to decay.

The initiative is performed three times over each year in each location motivating the youth to participate in a worthwhile endeavor that gives meaning to their role in their respective communities by being proactive in the preservation of their heritage and environment.

During the last three years alone, the program received a contribution of close to $2 million. Over the five-year period, between 2009 and 2014, sixteen cities or destinations participated at least three time in the initiative. The destinations mainly came from five countries which include the following:

Argentina: Bariloche, San Juan, Salta

Chile: Easter Island,  Arica, Coyhaique, Puerto Varas, Punta Arenas

Colombia:  Girón, Santa Fe de Antioquia

Ecuador: Galapagos, Quito, Cuenca

Peru: Cusco, Arequipa, Iquitos
