LAN Airlines became the first carrier among the LATAM Group of airlines to have an A321 in its fleet when it took delivery of the jetliner recently.
The medium-range narrow-body airliner is the stretched derivative of the A320 aircraft family. It is the largest variant of the A320 family, and can accommodate up to 212 passengers in an all-economy configuration.
LAN Airlines is scheduled to take delivery of three more of this aircraft before the year ends. It has a firm order of 8 more A321 jets from the aircraft manufacturer whose delivery starts this year until 2016.
Aside from the A321-200, the airline also has a firm order of 63 jetliners of the A320 family, 34 for A319-100, 9 for A320-200, and 20 for the fuel-efficient A320neos. Delivery of which will start from 2016 until 2020.
The aircraft will be outfitted in a new cabin layout common to all other planes in the LATAM Airlines group. It will primarily operate on domestic routes across Chile.
According to Gonzalo Undurrago, the airline’s CEO, the arrival of the A321 airliner is not only a bold step towards improving their products and services they offer to their passengers. It is also a testament to their long-term commitment to their customers and the aviation industry, in general, to operate some of the youngest and modern fleet in the world.
The new acquisition and the upcoming deliveries of more modern aircraft will also mean more and more people will get the chance to travel to 15 destinations across the country.
