Aerovias DAP

Aerovias DAP or Las Aerolenias de la Patagonia is a Chilean airline that operates domestic scheduled flights and chartered flights mostly in the southern Patagonia area. The airline is based in the southern city of Punta Arenas which is in the Magallanes and Antartica Chilena Region in Chile.

The airline operates most of its flights in the southern Patagonia Area and into the Antartic continent with the Chilean state company ENAP as one of its major corporate clients. ENAP is an oil company and operates extensively in the southern part of Chile and in Antartica. It uses Carlos Ibanez Del Campo International Airport in Punta Arenas as its main hub.

A family operation, the airline was set up in 1979 by the Pivcevic family and is still entirely owned by them. The name DAP comes from the name of the founder, Domingo Andres Pivcevic, who was a businessman in the city of Punta Arenas. It started with operations linking Punta Arenas, Porvenir, Puerto Natales and Coyhaique with a Twin Otter aircraft. It started flying into Antarctica in Februrary 1989. Most of its flights into and from Antarctica are flown in the summer using aircraft including the BAE 146-200, Twin Otter, King Air 100 and DHC-7. It also leases a BAE 146-200 from Tronos. Other scheduled flights include 3 daily flights to Porvenir from Punta Arenas and 2 daily flights to Puerto Williams. These numbers are only for flights on weekdays.

DAP Aerovias also caters to clients like tourists and researches and flies chartered flights into Chilean and Argentinian Patagonia and Antartica. It is also involved in medical and emergency evacuations in these areas. The Aerovias DAP fleet is made up of 9 airplanes with one Avro RJ85, De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 300, CASA 212-100, Beechcraft King Air 100 and Beechcraft King Air 300. It also has two BAE 146s and two Cessna 402C.

DAP Aerovias also operates a helicopter charter company called DAP Helicopteros. They fly similar routes through Argentinian and Chilean Patagonia and also assist in emergency and medical evacuations and supply runs. The company has 15 helicopters at their disposal with four Eurcopter AS355F TwinStars, five Eurocopter BO105CB4s, four Eurocopter BO105CBS, one Eurocopter EC135T1 and one Eurocopter AS350B3.
